Hi! My name’s Steve, and I’m the owner-manager and chief accountant for my company, Fairman Keable. Introductions go a long way in business, not least when you’re reading a blog on our brand-new site. And here we are.
In today’s post, I’ll give you some background on the firm, what we believe in and what we’re like to work with.
Where does Fairman Keable come from?
As businesses go, Fairman Keable is relatively young. I started the firm in 2013, after years of working in practice since graduating from the University of Kent in 1999.
Since then, we’ve gone from strength to strength, helping our clients grow, breaking down their accounting problems to the smallest parts, and making a difference to them and the way they do business.
What do we enjoy about what we do?
I love management reporting and providing the service known to those in the industry as ‘finance director on demand’. Most small businesses cannot afford, nor do they need a full-time finance director, but will still see real value from regular, detailed reporting.
So that’s what we do. We can fill this gap by reporting on a regular, timely basis at a fraction of the cost of a full-time employee.
Unfortunately, modern pressures mean many business owners struggle to get some distance from their day-to-day operations, and they don’t know how their business is performing.

Use the best systems to get the best results
With good systems — cloud software and a dedicated bookkeeper — in place, it’s possible for an accountant to perform regular periodic work to give a business owner the information they need to review performance and feedback and improve.
We’re constantly reviewing our systems, to find where we can improve things. Whether that’s stripping back and turning an issue into its smallest parts, analysing a problem in detail, or just taking a step back, we believe that adapting your tools is better than just buying new ones.
Our unique perspective
I also run the company Rosetta Brands Ltd, which I set up with a university friend back in 2010.
The experience of running Rosetta alongside Fairman Keable gives me a unique perspective on business. Rosetta is a completely different company with its own challenges, successes and clients. Balancing my time between the two has given me experience you wouldn’t always get from an accountant, and a real insight on the kinds of challenges my clients might face.
